Loggerhead Marinelife Center Rolls Out New Program Lineup

Loggerhead Marinelife Center has rolled out a new schedule featuring 13 weekly programs for children, families and seniors. The non-profit center based in Juno Beach first opened as a children’s museum with a focus on education. The new program schedule builds upon that history with plenty of free or affordable learning opportunities for community members geared at teaching guests more about science, wildlife and conservation.

  • Bird Brains is an opportunity for children ages 7-12 to learn how to identify common Florida birds and construct recycled bird feeders to take home. Capacity is limited to 12 children. The program is $5.00 per child.
  • Dr. Logger presentations are free 30 minute shows for guests of all ages. Dr. Logger educates participants about the life of a sea turtle by addressing various topics like threats, nesting, anatomy, and lifestyle.
  • Fish Feeding is a free opportunity for visitors of all ages to watch the unique creatures that inhabit the aquariums in Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s Exhibit Hall. Participants will learn about the different feeding behaviors and food choices of various marine life.  
  • The center’s Fish ID class is a $5.00 interactive lecture for people with an interest in learning about the body characteristics and behaviors of local reef fish. The program is geared to an adult audience, however all ages may participate.
  • Hatchling Tales is a free weekly program for children ages four and under. Children and parents will enjoy ocean-inspired stories, music, crafts, group activities and more.
  • Led by an experienced Master Naturalist, Hammock Hikes and Beach Walks are excursions through some of Florida’s most precious habitats. Guests of all ages will learn about the wildlife that inhabits these areas. The activities are $5.00 for guests ages 3 and up, and free for children under 3.
  • The center’s free Junior Veterinary Lab opened to provide children ages 5-12 with an understanding of sea turtle rehabilitation from rescue to release. Participants come to the aid of a sea turtle replica as the group learns about common injuries and illnesses that affect these endangered animals while using instruments similar to those used by rehabilitation staff.
  • Kid’s Story Time is a free activity for children of all ages featuring a book read from Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s gift shop.
  • Living Beaches teaches participants about the animals that live at the beach through an interactive lecture and an experiential trip to the shore. Guests of all ages will discover the treasures the local beach has to offer. The activity is $5.00 for guests ages 3 and up, and free for children under 3.
  • Public Guided Tours are hour-long weekly programs led by the center’s Education Docents providing an in-depth look at Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s aquariums and sea turtle patients. Geared at all ages, tours are $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for children ages 3-12, and free for children under 3.
  • Science for Seniors are free 15-minute lectures held by Paul A. Brown, M.D. focusing on topics ranging from sea turtle biology to human health and biology. Seniors also enjoy 10% off in the center’s gift shop on Wednesdays. Topics to vary weekly but repeat monthly.
  • Guests that observe Turtle Feeding will learn about the eating habits of the center’s threatened and endangered sea turtles while an informative docent gives them nutrition critical to their recovery. The program is free and open to all ages.
